Our curtains and pelmets are machine sewn with blind hems, overlocked sides to give movement between the fabric and lining, mitred corners and weights. Our interlined curtains and pelmets use 260gm 100% cotton bump and have hand slipped sides. Eyelet curtains have stamped metal rings rather than plastic rings on a curtain tape. All curtains are supplied with hooks where necessary and ready to hang. Pelmets can be supplied with hooks or velcro. | There are a variety of curtain heading styles which are either hand sewn or made with curtain tape. Below is a guide, which also gives some practical advice and tips.
 | Pencil Pleats are the simplest and most popular curtain heading for daily use. They are perfect for use on curtains behind a pelmet. We use multi-pocket tape, which gives you three hook positions and therefore some flexibility for the finished curtain length. This is a deeper heading and is sometimes known as King Pleat. Voiles are supplied with a narrower heading.
| | Pinch Pleats are hand stitched using a Buckram stiffener. They can be made as a double or triple pinch. This fixed size heading is made to fit your rail and the width cannot be adjusted at a later stage. It is therefore essential that exact measurements be made. These are also known as French Pleat or Pinch Pleat.
| | Goblet Pleats are also a hand stitched heading. When open, Goblet Pleats do not stack as well as other headings and occupy more space so the rail should be extended slightly further either side of the window to accommodate them.
| | Tab Top and Tie Top curtains are a modern less formal style that can be made with less fullness. We only recommend them for curtains that are not frequently closed or narrow windows, as they do not run freely along the pole. These headings are only suitable with a curtain pole. Tie Tops are two tabs that tie over the top of the pole. As standard our tabs are 10cm long and 5cm wide and there approximately 8 tabs per width of fabric. If you require a different length tab, please call or email us.
| | Eyelet curtains are modern, functional and have less fullness. Our eyelets are metal and inserted with a press and are therefore more robust than click together plastic rings. They come in a choice of three sizes 25mm, 40mm and 66mm and include the following finishes: Plain or Antique Brass, Plain, Satin or Antique Nickel, Antique Copper, Chrome, Bright Gunmetal, Stainless Steel and Oxy Black.
|
 | | Pelmet Headings attach a pelmet to the top of curtains means that you can have the enhanced look of a double layer without the need for two tracks. This is especially useful where space is a premium. As standard they are pencil pleat and there are two ways of adding a pelmet to the top of curtains sewn through or as a flop over. The length of the pelmet is usually 1/6 of the curtain length.
| | Slotted Head curtains are made by stitching a channel or casing across the top of the curtains and slipping the curtain onto a pole. The material gathered onto the pole creates a frilled stand-up above the pole. This is a fixed heading and can only be used on dress curtains.

Linings
| All our curtains are lined except for Voiles. We have 100% cotton sateen lining in white, cream and ivory as standard. A great range of coloured linings are available at additional cost. We would not recommend using brightly coloured linings for south or south-west facing windows as the sun is capable of draining the colour from the lining in a couple of years.
Blackout Lining can be used if you are sensitive to light. This is not black and can be used with even the palest of fabrics.
Interlining is an extra layer of ‘bump’ between the curtain fabric and lining. If you would like thick curtains that look sumptuous and flow with fluid movement or have draughty windows, we would recommend interlining. Some of our more delicate fabrics, for example silk curtains need to be interlined to help protect this delicate fabric. All our interlined curtains are hand sewn.
Voile Curtains are available from a selection of our fabrics. They are machine sewn with Pencil Pleat, Triple Pleat or Slotted Headings. It is also possible to have Voile Roller Blinds.
| Key Points -
Fix the track or pole before measuring, -
The track or pole should extend beyond the window on either side, to allow room for the curtains to be drawn back off the window, Always use a metal tape measure, as a cloth or plastic tape may stretch.
| Track Width Measure the track or pole itself, not the window. -
For a single track, measure the overall length. If the track overlaps in the middle, include the overlap. -
If you require 'returns', add these to the overall width. -
For a curtain pole, measure the width of the pole between the decorative finials.
| |
Curtain Length If using a track, measure from the top of the track. If using a pole, measure from the hook of the ring to allow the pole to be seen above the curtains. Note For tab, tie and eyelet curtains measure from the top of the pole.
Measure to either: 1 cm above the sill for SILL LENGTH(A)
The desired length below for BELOW SILL LENGTH (B)
1cm above the carpet for FULL LENGTH (C) 2-5cm below the carpet for BREAKING LENGTH (C) up to 15cm below the carpet for PUDDLED LENGTH (C) | | If you would like a copy of our measuring guide please click here.
