Roller blinds can be made from suitable fabrics within our collections, but we cannot guarantee stripes will laminate straight. Embroidered or appliquéd fabrics, velvets and check patterns are not suitable for laminating; we suggest a roman blind is chosen instead.
Normally the fabric will roll off the back of the blind but you can also specify the fabric rolls off the front. This reverse-rolled blind allows the face fabric to be seen around the roll rather than the backing, but the blind will hang further away from the wall or window.
Blinds over one width will have a centre panel and balanced side joins. Silks and voile fabrics cannot be joined so can only be made into a roller blinds as wide as the fabric width, unless the drop of the blind is less than the width of the fabric, so the fabric can be used sideways.
The bottom can be trimmed with a matching braid and you can have shaped bottoms as shown below. Scalloped shapes are supplied with matching braid along the bottom edge of the front of the blind. We do have a choice of other trims at an additional cost, please call 0844 800 6306 for more information.
As standard, our quality chain operated sidewinder mechanism is supplied with the chain 50mm shorter than the blind length. Alternatively, the blind can be sprung with a central light acorn pull. We recommend the sidewinder mechanism on particularly wide or long blinds. Roller blinds are made by laminating the chosen fabric onto a stiffened backing cloth in cream or white and mounting onto a roller blind headrail. The backing gives the blind weight, body and creates the characteristic 'crispness' of a roller blind. You can choose a blackout laminate to make a blackout roller blind. Blinds can sit either inside or outside a window recess. Before measuring it is important to decide which you want. Always use a metal tape measure, as a cloth or plastic tape may stretch.
Take care to look for catches or handles and ensure you position your blind where they will not interfere.
The finished width of a roller blind will be 38mm narrower than the width measurement to allow for the blind mechanism. Inside a Window Recess Measure the length from the top to the bottom of the recess. B. Measure the width at the top of the window recess, where the blind is to be fitted. Measure the width at two other points of the recess i.e the middle and the bottom. Record the lowest measurement to ensure the blind does not snag when being lowered. A. Outside a Window Recess
To obtain the length, measure from the required position above the window, down to the required finished length.
To obtain the required width, measure the width of the window and add how much you want the fabric to overlap the recess.
We suggest at least 5cm each side, or the width of the sill.
